Letter to Jaime Battiste, MP for Sydney-Victoria

Subject: Please consider adding your voice to other Liberal MPs calling for a public inquiry into the Portapique shootings

Hi Jaime,

My friend Lisa McCully was killed on April 18 in Nova Scotia’s worst mass shooting in history.

Lisa and many of the other victims of this shooting were killed because they were women.

Three of your fellow Liberal MPs are calling for a public inquiry into the Portapique shooting.

Please consider adding your voice to those calling for a public inquiry.

Without a public inquiry I fear important information will be stopped from going public—information family and friends of the victims, and indeed all Canadians, have a right to know.

These shootings happened because Nova Scotia, Canada, and the RCMP have failed and are failing to protect women from the violent actions of men.

As someone who has apologized for the hateful things you have said about women in the past, supporting the call for a public inquiry would go a long way in atoning for those past wrongs.

We Nova Scotians deserve a public inquiry.

Thank you,
